So, let's start here.
This has been a long time coming but I'm now, finally, just a few weeks away from officially launching Nomadic Citizen.
Before I go any further, what is Nomadic Citizen? Nomadic Citizen is my little labour of love startup. It's an ethically produced textile and home goods brand. Through Nomadic Citizen, I collaborate with small artisan groups in faraway (mostly remote) areas to create small curated collections for you and your home - think pillows, rugs, baskets, and those little one of a kind conversation starters that sit on your bookshelf or hang on the wall. All of the pieces are handmade using traditional techniques native to the region they're produced in making them truly special.
I originally intended to start this blog earlier in my startup journey but things didn't work out that way. Between my day job, working to get Nomadic Citizen off the ground, and life in general, adding a new blog into the mix didn't work. And while things are still crazy around here and perhaps adding another commitment in the form of this blog might not be the smartest idea it's something I really want to do - because I just haven't come across too many blogs that document this journey. You know, something that shares the behind-the-scenes of starting...a small startup. All the (seemingly) little trivial things that are probably often overlooked or that you end up spending far too much time on. The learnings, the challenges, the failures, the constant decision making...but also the successes and triumphs - even the little ones.

Sometimes I'll come across a small startup on instagram and then *snap* like that, it seems like they have 10k followers and are being carried in brick and mortars around the world. But how does that happen. How do you get from here to there (if there is your goal). I'd like to share that here...in real time...as I attempt to figure it out. Right now, and for the foreseeable future I imagine, it's just me. I'm the sole person behind Nomadic Citizen. Sure I have friends I can bounce ideas off of, but all of the work, the research, the outreach, all of the social media accounts, the site, the newsletter, the photography, the packaging and shipping and communication the everything is done and will be done by yours truly. The only thing I've worked with someone on is the logo - I hired a graphic designer and I couldn't be happier with that decision. So I think I'll also be able to share a unique, but not uncommon, perspective of starting a small startup entirely on your own...with limited funds (let's keep it real.)
I'll also use this space to share what's going on at Nomadic Citizen Headquarters (my living room), behind the scenes sneak peeks, and other types of posts you expect to find on the blog of a small creative startup. I may even introduce a reoccurring feature or two. We'll see. As with all things, baby steps.
If there's anything specific you'd like to see here, let me know in the comments! And don't forget to sign up for the Nomadic Citizen newsletter - it's where you'll get the first word on the official launch date!
